Meet Jessica Gorman, from Miami Florida:
I’ve lost 30 pounds in the last seven months. It’s definitely been a combination of eating clean and working out like a maniac. I eat a modified paleo diet. When I say “diet,” I really mean lifestyle—it’s not a short-term fix. This plan works for me. Flywheel has also given me the motivation to feel like I can conquer the world. What keeps me going, you ask? When someone says to me (which is quite often these days), “You look amazing! What’s your secret?” Nothing feels better. I tell people that it’s no secret, just a lot of hard work. And then I proceed to tell them how Flywheel has changed my life…
The First Step: MOTIVATION
I had been overweight my entire life. During my sophomore year of college, I decided it was time to make a change. I started losing weight by eating healthy and doing the elliptical four to five times a week. Over a four-and-a-half year span, I lost about 100 pounds. Over the next 7 years, however, I hit a plateau and gained back about 20-25 pounds. When I turned 30 in February 2012, I was ready to make a PERMANENT change in lifestyle; to be the healthiest version of me I could be. I went gluten-free and was still going to the gym, but I needed something that was going to get me excited to get out of bed in the morning and make a HUGE impact.
I had heard about the legendary Flywheel Atlanta instructor Jeremy Levison. I said to myself, “might as well start with the best.” As I walked nervously into the studio for a Saturday 7:30 a.m. class, I just kept telling myself all I had to do was simply get through the class. Without a doubt, I have never sweat as much as I did in that class and I continue to do so in each and every class that I’ve taken since. At the end of class, I gave Jeremy a high-five, thanked him for a great ride and said that I would be back for more. The rest, as they say, is history! I immediately purchased a 20-pack and began going to Flywheel three to four times a week. It has become what I call “my other full-time job”—pretty much my religion and my happy place! Flywheel comes first, everything else second.
Jess’s amazing before and after shot!
The EXPERIENCE and The PAYOFF
Let me tell you I have NEVER had any athletic ability. Running? No thank you. I trained for my first 5k this past year and HATED it. Playing sports? No sir. Am I competitive? YES. As I mentioned, I was going to Flywheel three to four times a week for about three months and that eventually turned into seven times a week. In June, I broke 300 Power Points for the first time. Jeremy said to me, “now you HAVE to put your name on the TorqBoard”. I had been keeping my scores to myself until this point. As Jeremy became my “coach,” I acquiesced. I then went on to be #1 on the TorqBoard for a week straight. Remember I mentioned I have ZERO athletic ability? This gave me an entirely new level of confidence that I had never had before.
After six months of Flywheel, I took another leap of faith and tried FlyBarre.
I decided that I would like to be able to wear sleeveless tops by February 2014 (my 32nd birthday) and had heard such amazing things about FlyBarre. Again, I had never tried any type of resistance or weight training classes. And it’s safe to say am I not a dancer (save for an occasional wedding reception, of course). FlyBarre is HARD. It also rocks my world. Muscles in my arms and abs? I had no idea what those were before I stared going to FlyBarre! It’s the perfect complement to the amazing sweat session you get at Flywheel.
Flywheel is a culture. I’ve made “Fly friends.” It’s like hanging out with a bunch of people who also strive to be the very best version of themselves. It’s infectious. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I am a happier person because of Flywheel. I always try to remember the way I feel when I leave the studio and carry that with me in all other aspects of my life. I can’t imagine my life without it.
I recently had my annual physical, and am thrilled to say that since I’ve started riding at Flywheel about a year ago, I’ve lost 30 pounds and three dress sizes. My blood pressure is that of an athlete and my cholesterol levels are all within normal range for the first time in my life!
Now my goal is to maintain my healthy eating and fitness lifestyle. As for the big goal? Every summer PEOPLE Magazine does a special issue, “Half their size.” My goal is to be on the cover and tell my story!
We think it’s safe to say Jess reached her goal. She recently celebrated her 32 birthday with all of her friends at a special Flywheel class led by none other than Jeremy.
