“Why the heck do I do triples? Because I can"

shawn-main-580

Shawn after class with Flywheel instructors Danny Zapata and Kari Nicolle.

People always ask me, “Why the heck do you do triples?” I’m known for taking three classes a day at Flywheel. I have always been an athlete, but it hasn’t always been easy for me to get up and get that work out in. I have had epilepsy for 43 years. I take medication daily. I have Generalized Tonic Clonic seizures, previously known, as Grand Mal. I know they are scary for others to watch. They are scary to have. Seizures like this can cause extreme muscle pain and fatigue. One can sleep for hours after having one. For the most part, my seizures are under control. I am a very active person with a full-time job. I work in the theatre (which in New York City is a whole other type of work out). I help playwrights write. I receive about ten play submissions a week. That means I stay busy and I have to read fast. That’s pretty much how I have always lived my life. Busy and fast. Continue Reading

"I was #1 on the TorqBoard the day I went into labor!"

alsion-before-after-main580

Seattle rider Alison Mitchell shares her story:

I am a 34-year-old, type A personality, who was instantly hooked on Flywheel when I was dragged by a friend in October of 2012. I walked out of the stadium thinking, “Wow, that was more intense than running a 10K!” I had previously been a runner. A week later, my boyfriend proposed and I knew this would be the best way to get in shape for my wedding the following July. When I found out I was pregnant in February of 2013, not only did wedding plans have to change a bit (dress must now accommodate a baby bump), but I thought for sure I would have to slow down my exercise intensity. Much to my surprise, my physically active OBGYN told me that Flywheel would actually be better for me than running, since there would be an instructor in the room in case something happened, and my impending lack of balance would be stabilized by handlebars! Meet Feifei Sun, the girl who can no longer fit into her jeans:

“I once read in a women’s magazine that whatever habits you want to have for life, you need to have by 30.
