HOW I DISCOVERED FLYWHEEL:
My best friend Sharyl from NYC called me back in November and told me to I must go to Flywheel and take class with Kari Nicolle. She had been taking classes with Kari back in NYC and found out that Kari was moving to LA. I had NEVER taken a cycling class and I needed to kick start my routine. My clothes were getting snug and I couldn’t keep up with my daughter or my dog. I went to Kari’s class for the first time on November 10, 2014. I really had no idea what to expect. As soon as I walked through the doors at Flywheel Larchmont I was greeted and welcomed with such cheerfulness, I was taken aback. I got my shoes, found Kari, who proceeded to walk me into stadium and help me set up my bike. She explained the Torq, Power and RPM to me, and then assured me that I would be fine.
WHAT MADE ME SIGN UP FOR THE CHALLENGE:
Sharyl came to visit for a week during the holidays and we ended up FLYing six days in a row! We both signed up for the Flywheel Challenge in our respected cities so that we could compete with each other.
YES, THERE ARE CHALLENGES…
Lacey Stone was my team leader and as the lights went down during our first class of the Challenge, I was amazed at how she could dance to the music, guide us through class, and still manage to smile and keep us all pumping and in great spirits. Lacey kept me captivated and motivated. The Challenge was all about being the best I could be – I monitored my scores, pushed myself and followed the nutrition program. Prior to the Challenge, I weighed in at 171. At 5’10, this was not a healthy weight. By the end of those four weeks, I had lost 8.5 pounds and an inch on each thigh (so whoever says you bulk up is wrong!). My energy came back and I came back. I love my Flywheel family!
MY FAVORITE PART OF THE PROGRAM:
From inspiring Facebook posts from my instructors Lacey Stone, Kari Nicolle, Victor Self and Elizabeth Hill to the camaraderie between my teammates and me, I was motivated entire time. The Flywheel Challenge is structured in such a way that if you follow the rules and guidelines, you simply can’t lose! I would recommend it to anyone. My favorite part of this Challenge was meeting all of the wonderful Flywheel staff and fellow participants. I feel at home and at ease knowing that the only one I am challenging is myself. My commitment to myself is to do better, get uncomfortable and be comfortable being uncomfortable. Even though the Challenge has officially ended, a few of my teammates and I took it one step further and decided to go for eight weeks! We can’t tell if we’re keeping the Challenge alive, or changing our lifestyle completely!

THE MOTIVATION BEHIND MY FLYWHEEL JOURNEY:
I am getting married this May and I was trying to lose weight and get into the best shape of my life for the wedding. I had tried different classes – Zumba, boot camps and I had a personal trainer for a while – but nothing was giving me the results I that wanted, until I discovered Flywheel. I went to high school with instructor Megan Armstrong and I kept seeing her post about this “magical place.” I was intrigued and took advantage of the first class free offer. I was instantly hooked after that first ride. I started taking FlyBarre classes as well and immediately signed up for the FlyBride package!
WHAT MADE ME SIGN UP FOR THE CHALLENGE:
I decided to do the FlyBarre Challenge because I was already seeing great results taking class on my own! I had lost about seven pounds and my clothes were fitting better. But, I wanted to challenge myself even more and also follow a set nutrition plan. I work nights at a children’s hospital and the schedule and environment can make it tough to eat healthy.
YES, THERE ARE CHALLENGES…
At times it was challenging to give up sleep in order to work out. I would have to get up extra early to make it to class before working my night shift. But, I was seeing changes in my body each week— my regimen was working and I had to keep it up! The amazing staff at Flywheel also kept me motivated. They don’t treat you like a client, they truly make you feel like family. They encourage you every step of the way and they remember things about your personal life.
MY FAVORITE PART OF THE PROGRAM:
Getting measured every week! It’s great to have that little reward knowing that you are constantly re-shaping your body. I loved to that our coaches motivated us outside the studio, too. My team leader, Lindsey McClellan would send emails, texts and even a sweet card in the mail just to let me know I was doing great!

THE MOTIVATION BEHIND MY FLYWHEEL JOURNEY:
Last June, my friends dragged me to Flywheel in an effort to improve my health and wellness. “Isn’t that where they yell at you in the dark and play techno?” I quipped. My weight was at an all-time high, my clothes didn’t fit, and I dreaded going to the doctor’s office. But I knew right from the first class that I was on to something special. It was a 7:00 am Monday class with Will Haley and I still remember the playlist! The format of the class was perfect for me – amazing music, convenient scheduling, I was able to work at my own level. It was low impact and nobody was there to judge me. The tech pack on the bike helped me understand more about my performance, and the instructors brought energy and fun to each and every class. To say Flywheel changed my life would be an understatement.
WHAT MADE ME SIGN UP FOR THE CHALLENGE:
A couple months after I started Flywheel, I proposed to my girlfriend and we planned to get married in Hawaii. This added even more motivation to reach my weight goals! Before I knew it I was taking five Flywheel classes a week, and joining my fiancée at Pilates classes. When the January 2015 Flywheel Challenge was announced for the four weeks leading up to our wedding, it seemed like an excellent way to get into top form with extra inspiration from Flywheel Master Instructor Alicia Miller (who also teaches a great Pilates class that I attend weekly!).
THE RESULTS ARE REAL:
Over the course of the Challenge, I lost 11 pounds and saw amazing fitness results. I set new records for my Flywheel Power score, felt stronger in my Pilates classes, and had more energy than ever. I can’t say I strictly followed the Flywheel Challenge diet plan, but I did use it as a guideline for meals, portion sizes, and most importantly cutting carbs. Using the food journal kept me honest and accountable, and I plan to continue this practice in the future. Now that our wedding and honeymoon are over, I’m back in the studio working hard to burn off all the umbrella drinks. I’ll be doing my first triple ride on Monday, and maybe I’ll try my first ever quad ride on Friday morning.

WHAT MADE ME SIGN UP FOR THE CHALLENGE:
As a practicing physician, I know what it takes to lose weight. A negative balance of 3500 calories, either through diet or exercise, should result in a loss of one pound. Every day I talk to patients about living a healthy lifestyle. I have been taking cycling classes for over 20 years and I started cycling outdoors about four years ago. But over the past few years, my weight just kept creeping up. With all of the advice that I was giving, I was still struggling myself.
I signed up for my first Flywheel Challenge in October 2014. The Challenge appealed to me because the diet seemed doable (it allowed a glass of wine!) and I could fit to four 45-minute classes a week into my busy schedule, especially since the studio was so close to my house. I thrived on the “number” challenge. Every class I tried to improve my power. During that first Challenge I lost 10 pounds!
THE RESULTS ARE REAL:
In January, I signed up for the combination FLYPlus Challenge (FlyBarre and Flywheel). Six classes a week was tough to schedule, but I made it work. The classes were hard and the instructors were so encouraging. This was when friends and family noticed a true change in my body – my stomach flattened, my arm muscles became more defined, my posture improved and I felt so much better. And after the last Challenge I had lost a total of 18 pounds!
MY FAVORITE PART OF THE PROGRAM:
I convinced my husband to start coming with me. After all, he is and avid cyclist and the one who encouraged me to start cycling outdoors. He loved it and once, just once, to his surprise and delight, my power score was higher than his! For me, Flywheel works because after every class I truly feel a sense of accomplishment. The workout is efficient and burns a lot of calories! The results can be quantified and your progress can be tracked and I am happy to say they are working for me.

HOW I DISCOVERED FLYWHEEL:
After I graduated from college and start working, I gained a lot of weight due to stress and limited time to workout. I tried various diets – juicing, diet pills, soup, protein shakes, extreme low fat diets – you name it. I also tried different forms of exercise and the results were all short-lived. Last year, I moved from the West side of LA to Hollywood and started looking for a new and more challenging workout. At first, I wasn’t thinking of cycling because I had been doing it for a few years at my old studio and I wasn’t really experiencing the results that I was hoping for. Then a friend introduced me to Flywheel. I really enjoyed the challenge of the class and I especially loved the TorqBoard!
WHAT MADE ME SIGN UP FOR THE FLYWHEEL CHALLENGE:
Lacey is one of my favorite instructors. She announced in her class that she was going to be the coach for the Challenge and I wanted to see what I could achieve from it.
YES, THERE ARE CHALLENGES…
Changing my normal diet and pushing myself in class at the same time was certainly a challenge! I absolutely loved the diet plan even though it was difficult to eliminate all of the foods that taste so good, but are so bad for you—especially in that first week! Needless to say, the diet was very easy to follow and provided many options. For me, the classes are extremely challenging and I felt sore after each class, but the combination of the diet and cycling paid off. I lost six pounds in that first week!
THE RESULTS ARE REAL:
I lost eight pounds by the end of the Challenge! I feel stronger and my performance stats have significantly improved. I am no longer craving any bad carbs or sugar! Although the Challenge has ended, I am still continuing to follow the diet guidelines and FLY five to six times a week. The weight is falling off! I’ve lost another four pounds and I plan to continue challenging myself until I reach my goal.
