Every Monday, instructor Emily Burkhardt sets out to interview members of the FLY community–from instructors, to staff members, to riders. What does Flywheel mean to them? And how do they find joy in their day-to-day? This week, meet rider Leslie Sloane.

Happy (Belated) Mother’s Day!
This week’s #MondayMotivation is all about momma Leslie Sloane. Leslie is a part of the incredible 10:30am crew at Lincoln Square. Her positivity and energy inspires me to share that same kind of spark with everyone else. Did I mention that Leslie rode throughout her whole pregnancy?! How inspiring is that? Our bodies are truly stronger than we think they are.
Here is how Leslie finds joy:
What first brought you to Flywheel?
I have been addicted to spin since it first became a craze in New York in about 2009, back in the days when spin shoes were totally optional! I’ve done classes at various gyms and studios but a friend told me about the consistently great instructors and ability to quantify and track your own progress at Flywheel and I was sold right away. I have been hooked since my first Fly ride in 2014.
What do you do?
I am an event planner at Gourmet Advisory Services. We do corporate, social and not-for-profit events. In my almost 14 years with the company, I’ve done them all but now focus mostly on corporate events.
More importantly, I’m a mother to two incredible boys, ages 6 and 3 with another baby on the way any day.
How does Flywheel make you feel?
Incredible! Being able to watch my numbers and challenge myself helps me push myself to do all that I am capable of. Especially while I’m pregnant and there are some things I simply can’t do, I know that I can get on a bike at Flywheel and even though my numbers aren’t where they are pre-pregnancy, I am capable of pushing my body to be the best and strongest it can be.
What does living a healthy lifestyle mean to you?
Making sure that I am in the best mindset to be an active Mom and wife, be successful at work, and be able to be actively involved in both of my kids’ schools and other organizations I work with. What contributes to that is smart eating, getting enough sleep, keeping a calm and positive mindset, and staying on the move!
What brings you joy?
My family and friends and all the experiences we’re able to have being lucky enough to live here in New York City. Not to make any of the other people in my universe feel less important, but my two little boys are an endless source of joy for me and I look forward to adding their new little brother or sister into the mix!
Leslie, your strength and mindset have me motivated to rock this week!
Peace & Love,
