You can be active and overweight at the same time, right? Sort of. Growing up, I loved working out – I especially loved swimming. I never actually worried about my weight or what I ate because I was so active. My doctors, however, were concerned. I used my high-energy as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted — I loved boxed macaroni and cheese and fries (though, not together), and was blissfully unaware of how much they were negatively affecting my health.

From learning how to ride a bike to attempting to drive the family car, the lessons and values that have been passed down from our dads have shaped us into the adults we are today. But what’s greater than the lessons learned are the memories gained from these experiences. At Flywheel, we’ve seen the bonds between fathers and their children grow stronger as they tackle the TorqBoard together and focus on living healthy, active lives. Seven years ago, Jules Poggiogalle’s father lost his life in a hit-and-run car accident. The avid cyclist, who instilled a love of athleticism in his daughter’s life, was struck while riding with his friends one summer night. To honor his memory and celebrate his passion for cycling, Jules will ride in seven classes at Flywheel Boston on the anniversary of his accident. Oftentimes, we are blessed in life with opportunities that allow us to reach our full potential, and for me, that blessing was fitness. As a child, I was obese from the young age of seven, and I continued to struggle with my weight throughout my teenage years. Based on my unstable upbringing, I could have become a statistic and gone down a hard, reckless road. But, I overcame all stereotypes and came out on top. While it wasn’t an easy journey, it was one that made me stronger and appreciative of what my mind and body are capable of achieving. Here’s my story:
