5 Ways to Streamline Your Beauty Routine for Summer Travel

By August 25, 2017 No Comments

With summer winding down, you’re likely trying to get in every last trip possible. And whether it’s a weekend at the beach or a week-long getaway overseas, there’s no denying that packing is always the worst part of any vacation. This holds especially true when it comes to your beauty routine…how do you ever decide which bottles, jars, tubes and compacts to take?

Step one: Resist the urge to dump the entire contents of your medicine cabinet into your suitcase and call it a day. Step two: Check out these easy trips for simplifying and streamlining your beauty regimen, guaranteed to help make traveling that much more stress-free.

  1. Switch to Solids

The easiest way to avoid getting your beauty bounty confiscated by TSA? Swap liquid formulas for solids. These days you can find everything from face wash to makeup remover to perfume in a solid, stick form. (One to try: H20 Plus Elements On the Move Cleansing Stick.) Not only will this make getting through security a breeze, but you also won’t have to worry about spills in your suitcase. Talk about a win-win.

  1. Grab Multi-Taskers

Products that serve more than one purpose are a traveling girl’s BFF; after all, the fewer tubes and bottles you can pack, the better. A few smart options to consider: BB creams, which combine skincare benefits like SPF and hydration with the makeup benefits of a foundation, or multi-purpose color sticks, which can be dabbed on lips, cheeks, and eyes. We’ve taken the Wander Beauty Beach Balm with us on all of our summer trips.

  1. Stick to What’s Tried & True

A trip is not the time to start experimenting with new lip colors or foundation shades. Pack what you know works, what you actually like, and what you will realistically use every day. To that point, it’s especially important to keep your skincare consistent; traveling can wreak havoc on your complexion, and throwing new products into the mix is a recipe for a serious skin disaster.

  1. Downsize Everything

Keep your toiletries travel-sized, by either purchasing smaller versions or decanting your go-tos into smaller, reusable bottles. And we’re not just talking shampoo and such; invest in smaller sizes of your makeup, too. Check out Stowaway Cosmetics, which offers tiny takes on makeup essentials like concealer, blush and lipstick. Or, hit up Sephora or Ulta for some free samples, the ideal size for travel. Whenever you’re not traveling, stash these itty-bitties in your gym bag, so that you can quickly and easily beautify after class.

  1. Consider Where You’re Going

Just like you wouldn’t pack a ball gown for a beach weekend or take heels on a hiking trip, tailor your beauty wardrobe according to your destination, too. Start with the basics—sunscreen (always!), tinted moisturizer, mascara—then add in a few extras depending on where you’re going. Beach vacay? Toss in a multi-use highlighter stick to enhance your glow. Romantic European getaway? One bold lip color can easily dress up any outfit for special dinners out. Be strategic and limit yourself to more than one or two “add-ons.”
