WHAT MOTIVATED ME TO SIGN UP:
I was getting lazy with my workouts. I’m a runner by nature but wasn’t feeling very motivated to go out for a run after work. I had taken a few Flywheel classes last winter when I had ClassPass and enjoyed the entire experience: the TorqBoard, the data, the darkness and the music. When I received an email about the 28 Days to Fit Flywheel Challenge just a few weeks ago, I decided that it was time to get more disciplined about scheduling my workouts. The hardest (and best) part of the Challenge was scheduling time to work out and actually honoring that time. I turned down happy hours or “chillin’ on the couch” to get into the stadium and focus on my health. I was thrilled that I lost weight, but I was even happier about how I became more disciplined – from scheduling time with friends to planning trips to the grocery store – and made my free time more productive.

PERKS OF A FLYPAL:
Having a FLYPal was such an important part of the process. While Kim and I had opposite schedules at times and couldn’t take as many classes together as we would have liked to, we were still able to check in with each other via Facebook and email. One of her goals was to hit 300 Power points , and that really pushed me to do the same! We even hit our goals at the same time and we were thrilled to share in each other’s successes. It was really great to have such a supportive FLYPal through the Challenge!

WHAT MOTIVATED ME TO SIGN UP:
I signed up for the 28 Days to Fit FlyBarre Challenge to get myself back on track. Having a goal and a set deadline kept me motivated! I had actually never taken FlyBarre before, so it was definitely a Challenge for me. The meal plan was a big draw for me as well, and it was a nice reminder that the Challenge isn’t just about those 45 minutes in class, it’s also about what you’re eating throughout the day.

DRIVEN BY SUPPORT:
Having Kathryn as my FLYPal was awesome — she was super motivating! Having a partner was sustainable in that we both had the same goal of toning up and reaching 300 in class (we both did it!), but needed that extra push to get there. In my first FlyBarre class, I couldn’t hold plank for the entire series – now I can! The Chicago instructors, especially Candy Morales, were so supportive; they were active on the Challenge Facebook group and answered all questions, provided advice and kept us motivated. Not only am I four-and-a-half pounds lighter, but I feel stronger than when I started. Seeing results so quickly reminded me that hard work pays off. I felt awesome at Thanksgiving and feel motivated to keep working out and setting bigger goals.

WHAT MOTIVATED ME TO SIGN UP:
I saw announcements for the Challenge and was intrigued. I wanted to make a commitment to attending more classes every week while being held accountable, and this was my chance! It seemed like a no-brainer to me to push myself and rally around a common goal, which always gets me motivated to work out.

WHAT CHALLENGED ME:
The biggest challenge I faced was setting aside the time to commit to my weekly activites and saying “no” to social activities until after class. Luckily, I was able to attend some classes during lunch, so as the weeks went on, I planned ahead and blocked out time on my personal and work calendar for FlyBarre. Once I was in the groove of planning ahead, I stuck with it and actually looked forward to each session – it was a way for me to improve my strength both mentally and physically!

MY FAVORITE PART OF THE CHALLENGE:
Hands down, it was the fact that whenever I attended a class, the instructors were so impressed and made me feel really special for signing up for the Challenge. As I got to know the instructors, they even called out my name during class and had the class cheer for me. This really pushed me harder because everyone was watching! I loved the personalized attention and I look forward to doing another Challenge.

STRONGER FOR IT:
The best results are not necessarily visible. Sure, I have a leaner midsection and more toned legs, but I’ve gained a lot of stamina. Now more than ever, I’m focused on achieving a specific goal during any of my workouts, and happy that I can keep up! I’m able to hold positions a lot longer in class, and have the increased ability to push through even when my hamstrings or triceps are tired and want to give up. The best part of the Challenge was sticking to my commitment plus looking and feeling better in the process.

I am extremely grateful to the Flywheel team for helping me regain my fitness and focus – I feel so much more like myself than I did before the Challenge.

MY FIRST FLYWHEEL EXPERIENCE
My first Flywheel class was in June 2013 in the Hamptons, while visiting an old boarding school friend who works in a private equity firm. He found Flywheel as a great way to help him balance and unwind – and after taking my first class, I could see why! Gordon, a former competitive swimmer, had a goal to hit over 300 points; I remember feeling happy to get over 200. I returned the following summer and took another class, and when Flywheel opened a studio in Raleigh, I instantly became a member.

WHY I SIGNED UP FOR THE CHALLENGE
I’m accustomed to being in good physical condition, and I found myself really stressed, full of excuses, gaining weight and feeling out of shape. I used to enjoy running, but can no longer do so due to a knee injury (I’ll pick up again after treatment!) so in the meantime, I refused to accept a new body type! So, I signed up for the 28 Days to Fit FlyPlus+ Challenge with a dedicated, “all-in” mindset. This included taking early morning classes (despite not being a “morning person”), increasing my exercise frequency, and embracing the nutritional program.

FLYBARRE ISN’T JUST FOR THE GIRLS
The Challenge started with my first-ever FlyBarre class, at 6:00 AM on Monday, October 26. I found it a bit intimidating at first – I was the only guy in the room – and was lagging in endurance. However, my Challenge coach Nikki Rodriguez did a great job getting me up to speed, and all the gals helped me feel very welcome. She also took extra time after class with me and another Challenger to go over the basics (as we had been unable to attend the intro session). And Flywheel instructor Vashti Chandler was also amazing, helping me and other Challenge participants improve every ride. I also enjoyed her informative and motivational weekly emails. Thanks to their help, I began to gain strength and endurance, lost six pounds and two inches off my waist. I am extremely grateful to the Flywheel team for helping me regain my fitness and focus – I feel so much more like myself than I did before the Challenge!

OCTOBER RIDER AND PULSER OF THE MONTH
Amy Sterner Nelson of Seattle and Jenny Timpani of Sunnyvale both turned to Flywheel at pivotal points in their lives. For Amy, it was wedding preparation that first drew her to our Seattle studio and, since then, she credits the workout for keeping her fit and healthy through throughout her first pregnancy (she’s currently expecting baby number two!). And after not working out for over a year, Jenny knew she needed to face reality and rediscover her motivation to get healthy. Read on!
